Fortune is Blind is an accessible AR adventure following the story of James Carter, a world-renowned adventure and explorer as he and his assistant, Emma Winter, search for a legendary golden statue located deep in the south American jungles.
Between James and the statue lie many pirates and monsters that both he and Emma must deal with. Will you, as James, be able to find the statue?
But it's not quite that simple, is it?
James is blind and will have to use all he has learned about living with sight loss to find the statue. Are you prepared for an epic adventure as you make your way across the Jungle, deep into ancient temples, and past numerous traps and monsters, all in search of glory?
Fortune Is Blind, our new AR mobile game, utilizes both haptic and 3D auditory feedback to include mechanics such as: aiming and shooting, branching choices, searching, stealth, driving, navigation, and more!
Each playthrough could offer something different as James Carter, the world-renowned visually impaired adventurer, navigates the branching story toward multiple different endings!
Built from the ground up, every mechanic has been developed and tested extensively with visually impaired accessibility in mind.
Our goal was to create a game that both seeing and visually impaired players can enjoy equally!
Using your phone's gyroscope, point your phone at your target and tap to shoot! Run out of ammo and James will reload the weapon after a second.
How do you find your target you say? By listening of course!
With 3D audio, aiming the phone will also turn James around, so you can really place yourself in the scenes.
But we will also give you a bit of a hand, Inspired by VI rifling, your phone will vibrate when you are pointing near a target and will get stronger the closer you are.
Throughout the story, James sometimes has to make choices, but you have the ability to choose how things play out.
When prompted, tilt the phone in the direction of your choice, and immediately feel the consequences of your decisions!
But that's not the only way the story branches, each section of gameplay has different routes based on if you succeed or fail. How will your story go? You better start practicing if you want a good ending!
As the protagonist, James, can't see things around him, he will sometimes have to feel around for things he needs. You will have to search too, by moving your finger around the phone screen, you can direct James search, and double tap to pick up the item you find.
Each item you select to pick up could lead to consequences later in the story so you need to think carefully about what you grab.
But you better search quickly, there are strange noises in the Jungle...
James is an experienced adventurer who knows that it's not always the best idea to fight your way out of a situation. Some times stealth is a better approach.
Should you decide to sneak your way around, you need to know what to do.
James follows the nearby walls with his hands so he knows where he is going, you will do the same as you drag your finger along the screen to move James along. But watch out for enemies, if you hear them coming towards you or feel James' heartbeat then they are watching you! Don't move until they pass.
Just like in real life, you turn the wheel left or right to drive except this time it's with your phone.... and James can't see. Listen carefully to the directions of James friends and make sure to turn the phone the correct way to avoid crashing. Good Luck!
In order to cater to both our seeing and non-seeing players, we have developed visuals that enhance the experience without adding or subtracting from it.
The dynamic visualizer will react to the current gameplay and enhance the story's presentation with unique yet inconsequential visuals.
